The Poverty Bay A&P Spring Show

Celebrating 151 years in 2026, the Poverty Bay A&P Spring Show is one of Tairāwhiti’s longest-running and most loved community events, proudly bringing town and country together since 1875. Held annually at the Gisborne Showgrounds, the two-day event attracts more than 30,000 visitors each year and is renowned throughout New Zealand for its mix of agriculture, entertainment, competition, and community spirit.

From the early days of horse-drawn wagons to today’s vibrant mix of rides, parades, competitions, and attractions, the Show has remained an important part of the region’s identity and heritage. It continues to celebrate the people, industries, traditions, and community connections that make Tairāwhiti unique.

Across the two days, visitors can experience everything the Poverty Bay A&P Show is famous for, including:

  • Equestrian showing, dressage and show jumping

  • Speed shearing, shearing and wool handling

  • Wood chopping and fencing competitions

  • Dog trialling, dancing and debating

  • Goat and sheep competitions

  • The ever-popular Farmyard featuring animals, reptiles, birds and poultry

  • The iconic Grand Parade

  • Main arena entertainment on Saturday afternoon

  • Live music, food vendors, and family entertainment

  • More than 200 trade exhibitors and one of the biggest selections of rides and sideshows from Mahons Amusements

Combining rural tradition with family fun, the Poverty Bay A&P Spring Show remains a highlight on the Tairāwhiti calendar and a celebration of everything that makes our region special.
